Top Travel Buys Of 2018

With the new year fast approaching, you might be thinking ahead to your 2019 travel plans. In this post I’d like to share some invaluable purchases I made this year which really came in handy during my travels. Maybe one or two of these will help make your 2019 holidays as smooth and hassle-free as possible!

My Top Travel Buys of 2018

1) This backpack. It was the first way I travelled with a backpack, taking my new Osprey Fairview 40 around Morocco for eleven days. It was much easier carrying everything I needed on my back, rather than dragging my usual wheelie suitcase over dusty paths and uneven paving slabs. It’s the first travel backpack I’ve ever own, so I don’t have much to go on, but I find it comfortable, supportive and easy to adjust. It has a clamshell design, which means it opens flat, along with lots of zipped compartments.

I also bought these padlocks to keep my backpack secured when using public transport or leaving it unattended in our riads while we were out exploring.

2) Packing cubes. I’d heard all about the wonders of packing cubes but didn’t really get the hype, until we bought our Osprey backpacks. We bought these cubes in small, medium & large. Not only do they help you organize your luggage better by grouping clothes by category (such as putting all long and short sleeve tops into the same cube), you can fit more in by compressing the cubes and squeezing the extra air out. I would definitely recommend them, whether you travel with a backpack or suitcase.

3) This power bank. After a stressful journey, when my phone battery had completely drained and I didn’t have a chance to recharge it, I decided to buy a power bank. This one is light, slim and charges devices like my phone and kindle really quickly.

4) Water shoes. Yes, I know they are not the prettiest. I also know they are absolutely essential when visiting countries with rocky beaches! Two years ago my boyfriend and I went to Split (Croatia) and ‘ooh‘-ed and ‘owww‘-ed our way up and down the beaches, wincing and cringing as we stepped on rough rocks and sharp edges, both in and out of the water. When we booked a week’s holiday in Corfu in September ’18, we quickly learned that Corfu has pebble beaches. We bought these water shoes and they literally saved our skin!

Now it’s your turn….

What were your best travel-related purchases of the year?
